Photo Framing Supplies For The Beginning Framer
If the photography bug has hit you, before long you will have accumulated a large number of photographs. These are wonderful when displayed around your home or office, but in order to do that you will need to learn a little bit about photo framing supplies. Framing is actually pretty straightforward when you know what the basic supplies are that you will need for success in this task.
In order to frame a photograph, you will need framing and matting supplies that include a frame, glazing, mat and mount boards, photo corners and hinging tape, and a hanging kit if you wish to hang the framed piece on the wall.
It is easiest and least expensive to use ready made picture frames for your photography framing. Ready made picture frames come in a wide range of sizes, so if your photographs are in standard sizes, you are sure to have success in finding a frame that will fit. You can easily find ready made picture frames in wood or metal styles, and there are a host of finishes and colors from which you can select those that compliment your artwork.
Other art framing supplies include the mat and mount boards. You place your photograph on top of the mount board, and place the mat board on top of the photo. You will want some way to attach the artwork to the mount board, and for this purpose you could use hinging tape or photo corners. These art framing supplies are used by taping the mat to the mount board, and sandwiching the photo in between them, or you can place the corners, which have adhesive backing on them, on the mount board, then place the photo into the corners and let the mat board sit on top, which will also cover and hide the corners from view.
Your framing and matting supplies will also include the glazing. Glazing is available in glass and acrylic, and there are advantages to both of these art framing supplies. Glass is durable and scratch resistant, but heavy, so if you are going to hang a large piece of art, this is a consideration. Acrylics are framing and matting supplies that are lighter weight than glass, but also offer archival protection from harmful ultraviolet rays in sunlight and air-borne pollution, both of which can be damaging to the surface of the art.
Optional photo framing supplies are the hanging kits. These metal pieces attach to the frame, and wire is included so that the framed photograph may be hung up on the wall.
